A couple years ago, I was in the checkout line at Food Lion...cart FULL of groceries. After everything was bagged, I swiped my card only to discover, I just didnt have it. If youve been there before you already know the feeling, pure humiliation. My face was hot trying to look the cashier in the eye especially since there was a long line of people behind me. I ended up leaving without a thing and the ride home was long. I never forgot that moment. Fast forward to earlier tonight... This lady in front of me had a cart full and two young kids at the same damn time. Her card was declined and I guess I can blame it on instinct, who knows but, I simply told the cashier to add her bill to mine. Without a doubt, the two ladies behind me said the same thing. Thankfully, we all had cash and the woman was so thankful. She wanted to know our contact info just so she could pay us back. In our own way, we said no worries, and Happy New Year. Empathy works wonders. I do believe that even if I were never in her shoes, I still wouldve reacted the same. Humanity is bliss.
