A current public health issue that I would like to share with you: Measles and chickenpox were eradicated for sometime in the US. However, now it is coming back and is mostly seen in affluent areas and in private schools. In these areas some parents think that getting their child vaccinated against measles and chickenpox might be somewhat harmful. So a child who possibly comes back from a trip to Switzerland might be passing this on at the school. While some other areas parents line up their children for vaccination, for they can remember how a relative went blind as the result of measles and they are happy and grateful that vaccination is available to them.
