A day late, but its time for Manager on Monday!! A great effort - TopicsExpress

A day late, but its time for Manager on Monday!! A great effort this weekend from all involved at GSS FC. Firstly Sharon Brown, our Secretary in getting a game on at such short notice, and then to the team for a performance worthy of the effort made. A special thanks to Chopper Culver, Cameron Ball and Wilf Brown, all members of the “back up” squad who stepped into the breech. A major part of making our limited squad numbers work will be having a back up squad available if and whenever they may be required. The way the club is organised with strictly limited squad numbers means that it will be harder for us than for most other teams. It’s the equivalent of a premier league team spending £10 million when every other team has spent £50 to £100 million! But it is also an integral part of what the club has set out to achieve; the creation of something more than just a football team. I was extremely pleased with the performance on Sunday, we had a better shape, we always looked to attack, and we played football!! We had several passing moves that went the whole way through the team. I was also particularly pleased with the response to “most” (note not all!) instructions at the start of the game and at half time. Also to newest squad member Cally Gayle for a hard working debut. The result as I keep banging on about at this stage is secondary; it’s about learning, and I learnt lots more about the group again today. A big slap on the back to each and everyone of them! It’s important to remember that the team is everyone in the squad, not just those that were out there on the pitch. Most notably today, Ricky Lake. Ricky was injured in training last week but his response and keenness to stay involved has been exemplary. Get well soon Ricky! The first league and cup fixtures have been released, 7th September, and the next part of our preparation shall be an extremely tough learning experience on Thursday night against an established HSFL First Division side. I shall be looking for some big performances not to mention some serious displays of character! Thank you for your involvement, support, and interest in GSS FC. Martin Brown - Manager
