A deadly storm that has left a trail of death and destruction west of Alabama is expected to begin its arrival in the Cullman area around 2 p.m. The early signs of the storm will be light to moderate rain, followed by thunderstorms as a warm air mass moves in from the south, according to the National Weather Service. While the temperature climbs in the afternoon, the intensity of the storms is expected to increase, according to NWS projections. The most volatile time for Cullman County is expected to be between 5 p.m. and midnight. the system is expected to dump 3-5 inches of rain on the area in a 24-hour period, creating a high risk of dangerous flash flooding. Winds are expected to gust up to 60 miles per hour at times.
