A death of a pet is much harder then the loss of a friend. Today I sent my 16 year old cat smokey to the big catnip scratching post in the clouds. She was suffering from thyroid failure, kidney failure, loss of hearing, loss of sight, and loss of muscle. This little girl has been there for me since I was 4 years old. I picked out this little girl on October 5th and made my parents bring her home. She was there for me through the birth of my brother, the death of all those lovely fish she wanted to eat, the death of my grandfathers, through every relationship and crush I had, every break up, all birthday celebrations, all different graduations, to all the tub and sink licking, me pretending you were one of my dolls, all the sleepless nights with out your bed and giving it up to my toys, letting me pretend to dress you up, to making the statement true that if it is a box I must fit, all the Christmas you went to your favorite spot ; under the tree,to me trying to chase your fat stomach on the ground, to you nipping all of us because you were so sassy, all sickness where I couldnt leave my bed, pretending were spies and crawling on the ground to the door when a package came, to all the trips up north where you wouldnt shut up, through all the times Nicholas chased you around the house with toy cars or tape, all the times you jumped on the table when we were eating fish or chicken, through the times Layla wanted to play with you or sit in your bed, and through all the lovely homework where she could play with my pencil while I was writing. I love my little girl and Im sorry I had to put you down but you were suffering and I couldnt watch it anymore. One thing I will always will remember is the love you have to me and all the silly things we did together. As Dr. Suess said Dont cry because its over, Smile because it happened. Smokey Maas I will always love you. I hope you have fun with king, grandpa maas, grandpa Netzow, all those lovely fair fish, and all the catnip in the world!!! RIP Smokey Marie Maas 1/9/15 3:50pm
