A family tradition... Im SO proud of our Sonny (Sonny Banner). Last weekend Sonny, aged 16, worked on his very first rock gig in, of all venues, the Refectory at Leeds University, where I booked all the bands and ran all the gigs in the early 1980s. Sonny was doing this as work experience with my old friend Neil Hunt, who owns and runs Zig Zag Lighting, one of the UKs prominent rock & roll stage lighting companies, and based in Leeds. I drove Sonny over there for the load-in on Friday, and felt terribly emotional, but proud, as I watched him wheel flight cases around in that hall. Then we were back in the dear old Refec on Saturday for an afternoon and evening of half a dozen bands, all part of the city wide Live At Leeds Festival. It seemed we had come full circle, as I first met Neil when he was a scrawny 18 year old, who - in 1980 - pestered me to join my stage crew for the Leeds University gigs. I took him on. And, for what he has achieved with that humble start, I feel very proud of him too. The photos show me, Sonny, Neil and... er, Buster, on that historic stage on Friday afternoon. Thanks, Neil. Well done, Sonny.
