A fascinating article as I too am very interested in what the real Jesus actually had to say. Levine lays out a brutal assault on feel good cliche interpretations of Jesus most famous sayings through a whirlwind of insight on how the Jewish people of Jesus day would have understood him. I have to agree with her challenging conclusion that Christians far too often neglect the historical aspects of Jesus context, even in his most famous sayings... However. It saddens me that for all of Levines phazzazz, her admission to a lack of personal faith hints that she might be the one most to be pitied... A glorious exercise in missing the point; someone wise enough to understand the context of Jesus but too hardened to hear the truth of his claim. I believe that despite the immensity of ignorance I still possess in understanding the historical Jesus, you cannot truly know Jesus without finally following him and even the most ignorant of believers will still move mountains with their mustard seeds of faith. Any thoughts?
