A fear has been expressed by many people that entertaining conversations and questions about scripture, like those brought about by the recent Gungor controversy, are dangerous for the faith of young people and could potentially direct them away from God. It has been my experience, both personally and in MANY conversations with millennials and younger, that the opposite is actually true; many young people feel that their questions, doubts, and alternative perspectives are not welcome within the church, and they deeply fear rejection for having them. The irony must be noted and contemplated- our earnest, sincere attempts to protect a younger generation might actually be driving them away. Truth always makes Himself known to those who truly seek Him, no matter how zig-zagged that search might seem to onlookers. Could we be a Church that cheers on the search for Truth, even if the method seems unconventional?
