A few days I was sent a direct message from somebody who knows me only through Facebook. She asked me, among other things, why I bothered to attack Laura Mulvey suggesting that I was a being unfair to contemporary feminism by targeting an essay that was nearly 40 years old. However, I think Mulvey is interesting and worth reading, and that she is both read and remembered incorrectly, and made some mistakes herself. It seems odd to me to say that we should revisit older and influential texts. Why write if we dont hope to remain relevant for at least 40 years?
