A few days ago in Las Vegas a 9 year old girl accidentally killed her instructor who was teaching her how to fire an Uzi. The girl is about the same age as my son. I would never let my son go near a gun. Nobody in my extended 14 generations from both side have ever touched a gun, let alone fired it. I have no intention of being ambitiously different. The 2nd Amendment of American Constitution provides the Right to bear Arms. One can buy guns like groceries in Wal Mart. Its not uncommon for folks here including women to have 2-3 guns in their home, even carry them in their car dashboards. If you kill an intruder in your property chances are you can get acquitted for self defense. The other day some one at my work asked me if I have guns. I said no. What if some one tries to break in your house, he queried. I replied I will call the cops. Wont you do that I asked? No, he responded casually I would prefer to kill that son of a gun (bast***) . I could not imagine myself as a gun slinging cow boy, shooting somebody. Its beyond my wildest imagination to be part of Wild Wild West. Last year I called a Plumber to fix a dripping faucet inside my bath tub. I was standing on my driveway as the strapping 6 feeter closed in his mini truck. Something instantly caught my eye. All that glitters may not gold but it can be a Gun. I could not miss the sight of it lying on the passenger side, shining under a bright Fall sun. Though safely ensconced inside the vehicle the sight of a rifle sent a chill down my spine, chiller than the chilly Autumn air outside. He could sense it and his nonchalant response was he was getting ready for the hunting season and aspires to hunt down more deers than last year. I breathed easier as he locked his truck and started walking towards the lawn to shut down the water supply. Our chatting continued. Apart from this hunting rifle he owns 5 more guns totaling half a dozen. I asked him why you need so many guns ? Dont you trust police. His response Police would come in minutes but it takes seconds for someone to shoot. Point well made. At the same time I pondered back home the police would take hours sometimes days to arrive. I hope he has not seen those Bollywood movies when the legendary Inspector Saab Jagdish Raj takes his sweet time to arrive at the crime scene. He continued further We will defend our freedom in case United Nation attacks us , apparently referring UN as a nation somewhere hell bent on attacking America. I saved my laughter for another day as he proceeded with his work. God bless America but save innocent lives from untimely deaths.
