A few friends posted this and since I didnt want to be a troll on their pages, I will comment for myself here. Not wanting the Bible and prayer in schools, etc is different than not wanting any morality. He says that when we jettison the Bible we are inviting killing and stealing as if those teachings were what secular people are rejecting and as if the Bible is the only place that teaches them and Christians are the only ones that practice them. Morals dont come from the Bible, Ben Stein. Thankfully! If spanking is good because the Bible says so, as he says here, then we shouldnt cherry pick which Bible commandments we like and dislike. Spanking is ONLY advocated in the old testament. So maybe it was when we stopped stoning gay people that our culture went downhill. Maybe God is ignoring us because we wear mixed fabrics or because we no longer let rapists purchase their victims. We do reap what we sow. And sowing that Bible has set us back probably centuries on the issues of slavery, womens rights, gay rights and science. This is a secular country. That doesnt mean the state promotes atheism or even humanism. It means the state promotes nothing. Which is how it should be.
