A few months ago my Uncle, a Vietnam veteran, shared this video with me. If you dont know the history of the National Anthem, this is WELL worth your time. I gained a more personal understanding of our nations history by watching it, but the greatest lesson I learned that day came from the story that was written on my uncles face. Ive known him for 34 years, and I have seldom seen him tear up; but, as we watched, I saw him relive the pain of his own personal sacrifice. As the story progressed, I watched his heartache give way to an immense sense of pride and love for this Nation. As a combat veteran of a foreign war, he understands freedom in a way that many of us never will. He, and the brothers he lost, bought our freedom with their blood. I am overwhelmed by the service and sacrifice of faithful veterans like my Uncle, Martin Pecht, my Uncle, Mike Barrick, and my Father, Charlie Hicks. I challenge each of you, on this Veterans Day, to make the time to watch this story with a veteran that you love; and thank them--from the bottom of your heart--for all that they have given. This is the beautiful powerful story of our National Anthem with a very personal tribute written by our son, Joshua Hicks, to his father and uncles.......I wanted to share it.....
