A few more interesting pics.... the day ended with us taking a small plane with 19 passengers to our point of destination-- Kenai, where our Alaskan fam live. It was the first time the girl has flown a teeny propeller plane. She enjoyed the ride and I got to practice my mommy is cool attitude about turbulence flying in a mini-van but beneath my cool as a cucumber surface I was struggling with my fear and panic of bumpy plane rides in a tuna can sized plane. Recently, I read an article about how mothers often pass on their fears to their children both emotionally & physically. In fact scientists experimented on poor mommy & kid mice, manipulating fear and associating it with the smell of peppermint oil.... So in essence when the mice mommies panicked when smelling peppermint so did their offspring. The negative fearful reaction to peppermint was passed down from mom to child generationally. As a result of reading that article I became determined not to pass along any of my fears, thus my feigned cool as a cucumber approach. Of course nicole saw every flinch of my fear during turbulence and used the code word no peppermint....and that kept me in check but I think te girl also me flinch a few times!!! Needless to say, when we landed I was euphoric and so was the girl. Please let me pass on all the positive stuff like kindness, strength, compassion, love & creativity...and the ability to face adversity with dignity.
