A few nights ago, I discovered an amazing song called Heart of Glass by a band named Blondie. Upon listening to this amazing song, I wondered: what ever happened to good music? It seems that each decade up until the 2010s had something musically special about it. The 1960s had Motown and the Beatles; the 1970s had Elton John (my favorite artist), Led Zeppelin, Queen, the Sugar Hill Gang, and disco music; the 1980s boasted unforgettable pop songs, punk rock, Billy Joel, and Rush; the 1990s had Nirvana, the Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, and other alternative and grunge rock greats; and finally, the 2000s had Evanescence, the Foo Fighters, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and a random assortment of good music from other genres. Though the 2010s had a few good songs so far (Sirens by Pearl Jam and Madness by Muse come to mind), nothing is really unique anymore. I hope that the music industry finds people with real talent and fast. I am tired of flipping through radio stations and hearing auto-tuned junk. I constantly find myself flipping to the oldies and classic rock stations since they boast music where talent was actually required to succeed. Back then, people could sing without the use of auto-tune, and there were orchestral arrangements in songs. For now, my favorite songs come from 1975 and 1994 (Philadelphia Freedom by Elton John and Interstate Love Song by the Stone Temple Pilots), respectively.
