A few people have asked, Why are yall so upset about that story? I offer my insight into just a FEW of the many reasons we are unhappy with the often-slanted coverage of law enforcement by KFOR: As with any investigation, there are facts that cannot be released to the public until a decision is made. Until then, Ali Meyer decided to trudge up a story based on EMOTION to keep this story in the headlines knowing law enforcements hands are tied in offering any new information about the case. If youre going to report one side of the story, you need to report the other and let people decide for themselves if they reject or accept the message. The story she covered had a clear anti-law enforcement tone and hinted at wrong-doing on behalf of officers present on scene while painting the suspect as a stellar individual who simply made a mistake. Again, it was while law enforcement officials cannot release further information about the case to help viewers understand a broader version of the facts. It isnt just this story that has everyone all up in arms - it is a culmination of hug-a-thug stories they cover while vilifying officers. I get that there are bad officers and those stories deserve coverage - I am not arguing that. What we are tired of KFOR doing is covering stories where officers did everything right, followed our laws, their policies, training, etc. and bringing up the question of but did the officer really? Stay tuned for new information.... and then offering very little NEW information and instead providing an emotionally charged story based on the perception of a family in grief who absolutely cannot be unbiased in their commentary for obvious reasons. -B
