A few showers are developing across Allegany and Hampshire Counties. Most of this is not reaching the ground yet due to some dry air that the showers have to overcome. However, as we venture into this afternoon and evening, showers will be accompanied by a couple of thunderstorms with high temperatures approaching 90 degrees in most places. The Potomac Highlands and Shenandoah Valley will encounter these showers and thunderstorms first this afternoon, but by late this afternoon and through this evening, showers and thunderstorms will develop or spread across northern Virginia, Maryland and across the Chesapeake Bay. The main threats will be lightning and strong winds. Heavy downpours could lead to one half of an inch of rain in a short period of time.
