A few things you might not know about Dun-Pikin: The donkeys - TopicsExpress

A few things you might not know about Dun-Pikin: The donkeys were the first equines to live at Dun-Pikin. When they arrived we were still Holts Produce Farm. Julie was one of the original donks here on the farm. Buffy was bought several years later to keep Julie company after her companion Edie died. At Dun-Pikin Farm we use about 9 bales of hay a day. That is 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Thats 3,285 bales a year. About 10 tractor trailer loads of hay a year. We currently have 12 different kinds of animals at the farm. We have ducks, chickens, turkeys, pheasants, goats, rabbits, pigs, donkeys, cows, cats, dogs, ponies, and horses. We lost our guinea hen, and our peacock this winter. Cory was the first horse I bought for the farm 14 years ago, Jelly Bean was the most recent in October of 2013. We have 6 ponies we regularly us for Pony Rides. Every bit of manure we take out of the barn throughout the year, is picked up by local gardeners in the spring. By May we will run out of our stock pile of manure. Come and get it if you want it. It goes quick. Kemerton, Katies horse is the largest horse at Dun-Pikin standing at 16.3h. Jelly Bean is the smallest standing at 32. It takes 3 people about 3 hours a day to do all the daily farm chores. Farm chores include feeding and watering all the animals, mucking all the stalls, and replacing bedding, sweeping and raking the aisleway, filling and scrubbing water troughs, and walking the horses out. All this gets done 7 days a week. We have great horses, wonderful ponies, knowledgeable and patient instructors, and tons of ways for you to get involved with horses. Come on. You know you want to. Come Ride With Us!
