A few weeks ago I was notified that I will be receiving this award from my alma matta, Washington Adventist University on April 12th, 2013 at the the Alumni Awards Banquet. I am absolutely honored and humbled to receive this award. I invite family, friends and fellow alumni to join me in celebrating our alumnis achievements during alumni weekend.. wau.edu/alumni-weekend-awardeesYoung Alumnus of the Year Collin Haynes - Class of 2009 Collin Randy Haynes was born in Linden, Guyana, South America. He is the third of four boys and has fond memories of his humble beginnings being raised in a diverse family and community setting. His childhood experiences gave him the aspiration to serve the wellbeing of others. Collin migrated to the United States and attended Columbia Union College. In 2009, he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in General Studies with concentrations in Biochemistry, International Relations and a Pre-medicine track. After leaving WAU, he enrolled in a Master of Public Health program with a concentration in Global Health at Loma Linda University. There he continued his commitment to service coordinating a newly funded Loma Linda University program for minority youth offering mentorship, volunteer and shadowing opportunities for high school students in San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Since graduating from Loma Linda, Collin has worked on various projects in the areas of disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, migrant health, health promotion and education on chronic disease and HIV/AIDS. He has consulted with various civil society, government and UN Organizations in his native country of Guyana and most recently, a member on the team for the preparation of Guyana HIV/AIDS Response Progress Report submitted to UNAIDS in Geneva. HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support programs are his most passionate area of Public Health. Concurrent with his work in Public Health, Collin works as a Healthcare IT Consultant for Loma Linda University, Johns Hopkins Medicine, University of Arizona and University of Michigan in the United States training physicians, surgeons and nurses on using electronic medical recording mechanisms in patient care.
