A few weeks back I saw hostel in Venice on hostelbookers ( Hostelworld,hostelbookers,hostels,scout24.. .... .owned by Web Reservation International) for just 2 Euros per person per night. I thought it was a mistake so I didnt book it. Then I saw the ads all over there site for 90% off specifically mentioning this place in Venice. This property was the only that was really 90% off, everything else was less. Then I saw this press release: LONDON, ENGLAND, January 08, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The 24-day promotion has something for even the most budget-conscious traveler, from sun-drenched beach breaks in Koh Samui to snow sport getaways in the Italian Alps and Dolomites of South Tirol; all at a fraction of the standard prices. The January winter sale will feature discounts on 369 hostels and budget hotels throughout 91 towns and cities in 28 countries, for travel booked between 7 - 31 January 2010 and completed before 31 March 2010. The sale will offer deals on accommodation split into four categories; adventure travel, beach holidays, cheap city breaks and ski trips. The most significant savings can be found in the city breaks category. At Ca Contarini, in the often unaffordable Venice, rooms are available from just GBP1.79 pppn (90 percent off) while a stay at Viennas Hotel Schild has 60 percent reductions on its usual prices. So if they are widely advertising it, the price should be correct right? I booked it and traveled to Venice. The man who ran the Ca Contarini was very nice and gave us a very slight discount off their normal prices, but would not honor the booking, saying it was hostelbookers mistake. Web Reservation Internationa has blamed the Ca Contarini and refused to do anything to rectify the situation. I think this is fraudulent marketing practices, not just simple error on hostelbookers part. Do I have any recourse?
