A few weeks before Mothers Day last year I met a brother in the Cherry Hill Mall. He was trying to decide between two items as a gift for his Mother, who lived locally. He approached me and asked if Id assist so I asked a couple of questions about his mom and ultimately he decided hed buy both things he had settled on. Thankful for my help he asked if he could express his gratitude by buying me dinner. My time in the area being limited I offered a raincheck, we exchanged details and went about our respective business. He called the next day & we struck up a rapport. In town seeing his Mother and siblings he was traveling back to Florida where he moved to be nearer to his children and ex-wife. It took a few months but we had our dinner date, not only was he handsome but he was engaging, funny, and knowledgeable on quite a few subjects. His work as a broker and real estate investor kept him busy but we checked in here and there. Our last in-depth conversation was on Mothers Day this year. He was in town and wanted to connect. I was busy and he settled for Skype. On Fathers Day I reached out to him. I got no response. Concerned, a couple of weeks ago I reinstalled Tango, his preferred video chat app, to find rest in peace messages on all of his photos... I was stunned. It still seems surreal. He was a good brother, a great father, an activist & investor in his community and a very dear friend. Murdered by a man who was rebuffed by a woman he had dated... Tomorrow is not promised and people are coming unhinged. Oil *your* shit and tell the people that you love that you love them, often. / Peace! If youre awake, its already grand.
