A few years ago, Christian Skaters was invited to join Because Every Mother Matters on a trip to Ethiopia. We were introduced to Israel and able to bless him and the village kids he was working with with some ramps, shoes, shirts and boards with the help of through the support of Element, Black Box, Academy Snowboards and the Whosoevers. We invited our friends Ian Wheat from JSAW, Pro Skater Simon Woodstock and a young filmmaker, Matt Batchelor to come along. During the visit Matt was able to make a short documentary of our trip but we had no idea of the vision that God would lay on his heart to share Israels story. Here is the trailer of this new project coming out next spring In 2005, in a rural village situated in the heart of Ethiopia, a man named Israel Dejene brought home a gift that he had received while studying abroad in Sweden. This gift was a skateboard. The film “MEGABI” documents Israel’s life growing up in Ethiopia, the struggles of poverty, stories of redemption, and how one board sparks life into a local village while indirectly inspiring a global movement. This film is truly A STORY OF HOPE THROUGH SKATEBOARDING.
