A few years ago I started writing stories of events in my life and the life my relatives. In these stories, one can find funny, lessons learned, spiritual experiences, and many other things. To date I have written about 60 stories with pictures if possible. I am posting one of these stories here. I am not much of a writer but here goes: Nanny and Papa’s Marriage Day I have always heard the story about when my dad’s parents got married in August 24th, 1922. Back in those days, people in the rural areas would go to the Justice of the Peace to get married. This is also true of my grandparents. On the day of the marriage, my grandfather went to my grandmother’s house to get her. They walked down the dirt road toward the Justice of the Peace’s house. His house was full of relatives of my grandparents waiting on them to arrive. As I understand it, the justice was nervous about performing the ceremony in front of so many people, that he went out of the house and met my grandparents on the dirt road. He told them that he was nervous about the ceremony, so my grandfather told him to perform the wedding out in the middle of the dirt road. So that is how they were married on that hot August day back in 1922. The only witness to the ceremony was my future great aunt, Margaret Castleberry who later married my uncle Dewey. She was playing in a tree in the yard of the justice’s house. Sarah Elizabeth Bradford married Ralph Norman Forrester on August 22, 1922 in the middle the road in Rising Fawn, Dade, Georgia. Ellis and Leanne are standing on the road where the marriage took place exactly 75 years to the day of the marriage. the other picture is Nanny and Papa taken nearly when they got married
