A few years ago, I took a nervous rescue to his forever home. Everything seemed great when I left. Early the next morning, I got a call that he had door dashed when she went to step out the front door. The next 4 days were spent tracking him, as people called after seeing the posters. We thought we were getting close, but then we got the call that he had been found dead after being hit by a car. This was probably the worst moment Ive experienced in rescue. He had visited people in their yards, and if anyone had detained him, he would have been saved. I did a Google search for personalized dog collars, and since then, all of our rescues (and my own dogs) wear these collars with the word RESCUE, and our phone number. There have been times when dogs have slipped away from their foster homes, and I have been called. They are easier to read than an ID tag. I highly recommend the personalized collar, in addition to a microchip.
