A few years ago, the name John Walker Lindh began to appear in the media. He was an American that studied overseas before joining the Taliban. In November 2001, he was apprehended by U.S. military, brought back to the U.S. and put on trial. He received 20 years without parole after taking a plea bargain. Steve Earle wrote a song about him, protesting that he did the right thing, aiding al-Queda. As for my English 131 teacher who showed the class this song today, I was well aware he wasnt big on the military and has strong liberal beliefs. But when he said he too apparently believes that John Walker Lindh is a victim that we should have never arrested and just let him stay and fight for al-Queda, and the we, America, are in the wrong, that it was America going in and doing all the killing and they were just trying to fight back; all I can say, is seriously, is this guy for real? Sadly he was being completely serious. youtube/watch?v=Ar7K_kUPwLw
