A film can be endlessly successful, have easily marketable merchandise, and highly profitable but that doesnt make it a classic, at least not to me. Maybe Im just picky or maybe my taste is in the minority belief, but I feel a classic film, the PERFECT film type shouldnt just satisfy your audience. It should meet the expectation of the audience but not over indulge. I always smile the longest and I experience heart wrenching longing only when it reaches that perfect balance. Whenever I go see a movie these days I have fun, but most newer films seem to be missing that lasting impression for me. The moments where the images on the screen having me think long after viewing them, that lasting impression burned into my mind changing me forever. That is what makes a classic film, and I wait for the next one with surprisingly gracious patience.
