A firefighter speaks openly... Today is a dark day, and one I actually feel worthless, devalued and totally let down. After 23 years in the fire service, a profession I am extremely proud to be in, this Tory government have totally abused and shown a total lack of respect for me, my colleagues, our service and the communities we strive to protect. More importantly they are destroying YOUR service. Before you judge the fire fighters for their audacity to strike. Before you read or hear the state sponsored and controlled press. Actually take time to talk to the real fire fighters. Find out EXACTLY, why they are being forced into this. I have witnessed many things in my career and seen countless fatalities. Including removing the bodies of our own colleagues who paid the ultimate sacrifice with their own lives. You can see my smile, hear my laugh, but you can never see the damage in my mind caused by the things I want to forget!!! The images that wont go away, the things I cant unsee. All I want is the pension I was guaranteed and pay more than the average mortgage for every month for the last 23 years! All I pray you do is support us and understand why we feel betrayed.
