A follow on to the post from last week regarding the fact that the poor are more generous. The answer is to virtually turn all the rich into poor minded people. How do we best do that? 1) Keep the rich mindful *that the poor exist.* by keeping their issues in the face of the rich. 2) Connect the lives of rich with poor people so that they materially experience (if vicariously) their struggle. 3) Continue to build cities in which people of various demographic status can live together (this alone promotes 1) and 2). It is by mixing economic classes that across society the necessary sensitivity to experiences is built in all the accidents of interaction that happen. NYC is a perfect example of where this often bares great fruit. 4) Social oversight, provide strong social pressures for the rich to share their largess in the form of public disclosure (legally permitted) of just how large they are living. This may seem controversial to some but I think it is important to shame the rich who fail to give into giving more ....money sitting in a bank helps no one and harms the poor while being idle....in a finite world of need this is simply irresponsibility to humanity.
