A friend (Jenny Farley) posted this on her page and I LOVE it because I was completely oblivious to these facts before Trajen was diagnosed. Her son Hayden was recently diagnosed with a very rare liver cancer, so we are often on the 7th floor together. Here goes and THANK YOU Jenny! Childhood Cancer Facts: 1. In 2013, at Phoenix Childrens Hospital, 289 new children were diagnosed with cancer. That is just at one hospital! 2. According to the American Cancer Society, in the US alone, 10,450 children under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer in 2014. 3. According to the American Cancer Society, a child is diagnosed with cancer every 3 minutes. 4. Phoenix Childrens Hospital is a leading participant in research to find cures for childhood cancer. What can you do to help? 1. You can make a donation to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org. 2. You can make a donation to Phoenix Childrens Hospital Foundation specifically for cancer research. You need to contact: Bonnie Morgan 602-933-2607 3. You can make a donation of gifts, toys, and other kid-friendly items to the Child Life Specialists at PCH. Also, if you have a fundraising activity or specific gift idea you can contact the Child Life group at PCH and they can make sure your donations go to the playrooms at the hospital or to the Hem/Onc clinic. You can contact: Kim Froehle, Child Life Specialist, 602-933-0535 4. You can order a Curing Childhood Cancer license plate from the MVD for $25. Of that, $17 will help fund childhood cancer research projects in Arizona. You can purchase plates from the MVD, or online at servicearizona. 5. You can order products that promote cancer awareness. One such website is choosehope. 6. Pray for those who are affected by childhood cancer. I realize that most of you know someone who has been affected by Childhood Cancer.
