A friend just posted this. I felt it important to share. Thank you Tesia Johnson! I just witnessed one of those moments that helps shape the type of person a child becomes, I think. Im sitting in Sbux and this kid is kind of standing around by the door. A lady walks up and you can tell that she has some minor mobility issues from the way she is walking. She asks the child (looks to be 6 or 7yo) in a very friendly voice if he wouldnt mind opening the door for her...she says that would REALLY help me out a LOT!...the kid opens the door really wide for her with a big smile on his face and she walks through THANK YOU! she says. The kid comes back inside and you can tell by his body language that he just had a really positive experience and felt good about himself for helping someone. He excitedly taps on his dads back with a big smile on his face kind of jumping around a little bit. Dad looks up and I cant hear what he says but whatever it was it was in a very STERN voice and you could see the joy melt from the kids face...his eyes go kind of distant and he stares off to the side. I hated that moment. I wish we could rewind and have the Dad listen to the kid tell how he helped someone...and then have the Dad say Thats AWESOME!.
