A friend just warned me today CrossFit kills after reading a Fairfax article. Read here m.heraldsun.au/lifestyle/health/chiropractors-warn-crossfit-may-be-killing-you/story-fni0dgzn-1226754077828 Lies. Lies. Lies. LoL :) The emphasis on range of motion have been repeated so many times every workouts, and, no you dont need to do Rxd (recommended weights) till you are fully confident with your postural stability (not to mention knowledge of movements). The workout is metabolically draining because it is timed, regardless of your training age-- but so are bootcamp and old videos of Jane Fonda DVD (not that I am familiar with the Jane Fonda routines. Of course.) It is varied, but as you progress each time youd appreciate the programs involved. High reps have been criticised but any compound exercises (without resistance) done 50, 70 times will also have the same effect. Agility drills for example during a bootcamp could also have the same pressure to your metabolism... The same as running with my friend Julie Twydell, that too will burn as many calories in a given 40 mins. So, in any given exercises its appropriate to listen to your coaches. And leave egos at home :) Yes, you dont need to impress everyone by lifting heavy... correct movement and posture are much to be desired.
