A friend of mine Adam Heathcote made a post about there being not many films with strong female leads. I agree with this to some extent. However I think its more just a product of the antiquated and somewhat provincial mainstream industry that is reflecting a very outdated bias. There are films out there with brilliant and very strong female leads but they are not as common sadly but I think thats changing. Whenever I am writing a play or screenplay or scene or monologue, I always imbue my female characters with just as much depth and breadth as my male ones. Often my female characters have more layers and levels as I tend to find them more interesting and malleable to write and develop. Its too easy to write strong male characters and weak female ones and its incredible boring because we have seen it all before. Shakespeare had it right from the beginning. He created just as many (arguably more) brilliant, diverse and strong female characters as male ones. Rant over.
