A friend of mine just wrote to me expressing empathy for the ridiculously difficult time Ive been going through recently. Ridiculously difficult is correct. Sometimes, I dont even know how Im still standing. In replying, I had a realization that surprised me. Its times like these that I feel I am reaping the fruits of my spiritual labor--years and years of meditation and inner energy work. Somehow, inexplicably, despite everything (losing my business partner, a close friend to a violent suicide, and the man who had been the love of my life--all in one month) there is a deep peace within me. Its a feeling thats deeper than the grief which I can only describe as Grace. Its times like these that I am so grateful Ive invested in a regular, formal spiritual practice. It doesnt really matter which path it is, as long as its one that suits you. The relationship with your Higher Self and God/Goddess is just like any relationship. The more you show up for it, the more time you spend hanging out with those close to you, the deeper and richer the bonds become.
