A friend of mine posted this and I am sharing it with her permission... Our words are very powerful and can speak life or death to those we speak them to or even those who are listening from a distance... May our words be those which build up a culture of life, may our words edify families and reinforce the beauty of motherhood in the next generation to come! ~Yesterday at the pediatricians office, the nurse asked when I was due, and after I responded, she replied with wow you are REALLY going to have your hands full! (in front of all 3 of my children!!) I tried to downplay her remark with my usual oh full of blessings! kids are so fun! but then C said oh yes, once the baby is born we will REALLY have our hands full!, just repeating what the nurse had said. The nurse might have meant this comment in a nice way, some sort of sympathy or pity or something, but what she really did was put the idea in my childrens minds that they are a handful. my children are most certainly NOT a handful, I never think that, I never imply that, and I certainly never want them thinking any such ridiculous thing. They arent raised to believe the world revolves around them, but I dont want them thinking that they are a burden either. While many who make this comment might be well-intentioned, I really wish they would stop and think about the message they are sending my children before they make such a ridiculous and rude comment. We have campaigns to ban bossy and ban the r-word. Its time we stop referring to children as handfuls and burdens and instead see them as the beautiful blessings that they are, challenges and all.~
