A friend on facebook pointed me in the direction of a man who has videos on youtube about EMP and how to do faraday cages from whatever you have laying around the house. His youtube name is disasterprepper. He wrote a book about this subject of emp mitigation. I will be prepping a case, according to the standard that he is setting... and getting his book. In there, I will put a cheap hand held radio for ham radio and another for FRS. Eventually, Ill put an altoids-tin HF transceiver in there for use on bugout. THe idea is to grab ham radio go bag, that already contains all the minimum radio gear... but ... everything is wrapped in some kind of double layered and insulated set of aluminum bags, sealed with aluminum duct tape. It is more expensive, but I hope to ensure that if the Midwest USA gets hit with an High Altitude Nuke, that I can still have radio comms. If I could afford a satcom phone, it would go in there. Also, for you rich guys... this same bag would be good for a new tablet computer as well. The only part of this I havent thought out is power supply... like battery... solar cells... charge controller... that kind of thing. Obviously one would need to maintain a charge on these items and ensure they are in working order... so it means opening the faraday pouches, servicing, and then resealing... which exposes them to small probability of EMP exposure if SHTF while they are open. Anyway, I said all this to help generate some discussion about this.... please chime in and lets come up with a workable solution for the average guys. https://youtube/watch?v=aMct99DiZak
