A friendly reminder to all pet parents out there regarding microchips! It is fabulous that microchips are becoming a standard of responsible pet ownership, however they are only as good as the updated information attached to the chip! If your pet has a microchip, can you confidently say that the information attached to the microchip is up to date? If not, we encourage you to contact the company for your microchip and provide them with your current address and phone number (and with some companies, this can be done directly online!). We (as well as many other rescues and humane societies) are often involved with stray dogs or cats that ARE mirochipped however, the contact information attached to these microchips is out of date (and this happens often!). It is very frustrating in these situations as we can only assume that the owner was well intentioned with getting their pet microchipped in the first place, however, some of these pets never find their way back to the owner due to the outdated information. It is very quick to update your information and equally as quick for you to be reunited with your pet should he or she ever end up impounded as a stray. (A note regarding all adopted BARS dogs and cats - we forward your contact information to the microchip company on your behalf but please update this information if you have moved! BARS is attached to the mircochip number of your adopted cat or dog for its life however, if you have moved then this makes it hard for us to track you down if we are ever made aware that your adopted pet has been found as a stray).
