A fund has been set up to benefit the family of slain Tarpon Springs Police Officer Charles Charlie K Kondek, age 45. Kondek was shot then run over by a car while responding to a noise call at a Tarpon Springs apartment complex early Sunday morning. The 17-year-veteran of the Tarpon Springs Police Department leaves behind a wife Teresa and six children; Aleena, Brandon, Andrew, Charlie Jr., Holly and Tiffany. St. Petersburg Police Detective Mark Marland, who is President of the Sun Coast Police Benevolent Association, announced on Monday that an account has been set up at Wells Fargo Bank on behalf of Kondeks family. The account is called the Charles Kondek Memorial Fund and all proceeds will go directly to his family. The Tarpon Springs Police Department recommends that checks be written out to Sun Coast Law Enforcement Charities/ or SCLEC. Also ensure that “Charles Kondek” is written into the memo section of the check. Anyone wishing to donate can drop off a check to any Wells Fargo Bank and the bank will deposit the funds into the correct account. Checks can also be dropped off at the Tarpon Springs Police Department 444 South Huey Ave. or can be sent to the Sun Coast PBA at 14141 46th Street North, Suite 1205 Clearwater, FL 33762. The Tarpon Springs Police Department says it has already received reports of fraudulent attempts to collect funds for Charlies family. The agency wants to remind people that there are only 2 legitimate organizations collecting money on Charlies behalf at this time, which are mentioned above. Marco Antonio Parilla Jr., 23, was arrested and charged with first degree murder in connection with the death of officer Kondek. Parilla is scheduled to make his first appearance in court on Monday afternoon.
