A funny thing is that the NBA has known Donald Sterling had no intentions on actually trying to improve the team. He refused to sell the team to several billionaires and they actually forced Chris Paul to the Clippers by blocking two trades for him. The first was a straight up trade for Russell Westbrook with OKC, and the second was with the Lakers for Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom and others. The Lakers were robbed. David Stern and the other 29 owners had taken control of the Hornets franchise and wanted Chris Paul to go to the Clippers for a few reasons to help the league. First they saw Kobes reign coming to an end and didnt want to lose the Los Angeles market to 2 bad teams in a weak league. Second, they knew Sterling wouldnt get Blake Griffin any help and set the franchise back another 10 years because nobody wanted to play there, They also wanted to maintain the balance of power in the West to keep the competition up, because the East was so horrible. So the NBA then put together a trade with the Clippers and sent Paul there to create a contender. The league has intervened so much in the last 7 years for business reasons and now they have to intervene for the right reasons. They knew what was up and now they have to figure out how to get rid the worst owner in sports history. Im waiting and watching.
