A giant in our small Holocaust education movement has passed away. I regret to inform you that our dear friend and mentor Sandy Hoffman passed away as a result of a stroke. Sandy was Co-Chair of the Nathan & Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Center and President of the Generation After. Both organizations are based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. When my parents first started dating in the 1970s they attended Generation After meetings that Sandy was leading. She was truly the most gentle, kind, warm person you could think of. She is preceded in death by her parents, Holocaust survivors Zev Neufeld from Zawiercie, Poland and Franka Mermelstein from Lodz, Poland. She is survived by two brothers, her husband, four children, and six grandkids. If anyone needs information on the funeral in Milwaukee, please let me know.
