A glimpse into the glamorous life of a birth doula/midwifes assistant: start the morning with a trip to Starbucks and a beautiful hospital birth with two awesome midwives. Go to playgroup, help kids make cookies, have a friend stop over with a pumpkin spice latte. Power through to Bunco, where the sleep deprivation acts much like the wine I cant drink because Im on call. Go home, get ready for bed, put my phone down, and turn off the light. Phone immediately rings: another mom is in labor, so I jump in the car and sing bad 90s country songs while chugging gas station coffee to keep myself awake on the drive. Start the next day with a beautiful homebirth with an awesome midwife, more coffee, plus some birthday cake. Stay awake on the drive home by singing loudly to more bad 90s country music. Realize I still know all of the words to Straight Tequila Night. Since its now 6:45am, I briefly consider just driving straight downtown for GameDay, but home wins because there are beds and heat there. Plan for today: sleep and break free from my coffee/sugar death spiral.
