A glimpse of the Northern Lights will be possible across - TopicsExpress

A glimpse of the Northern Lights will be possible across Massachusetts and areas of southern New England on Friday night. Technically known as the “Aurora Borealis,” the display is expected to peak on Friday night, even though central and southern New England isn’t the “heart” of the best viewing, there will be a chance it will be visible, according to Matt Noyes, meteorologist at New England Cable News. The best view will be in northern Maine, where some spectacular photos were taken on Thursday night. Eric Fisher, the chief meteorologist at WBZ-TV, said viewing conditions will be “excellent” because the forecast is for “mainly clear skies and low humidity” in a blog post on CBS Boston. The display, if visible, will be seen in the north as “shimmering greenish curtains of light suspended in the sky,” according to Sky and Telescope Magazine. The Northern Lights may also interrupt satellites and other communications signals this weekend. patch/massachusetts/brookline/northern-lights-visible-new-england-friday-night-0#.VBOFx_ldVX8
