A good lawyer shouldnt be measured by how well he is able to turn - TopicsExpress

A good lawyer shouldnt be measured by how well he is able to turn a phrase, but by how well he is able to uphold the law with honesty. I just had a thought this evening, some time in history (guaranteed more than once) lawyers have been able to weasel a guilty client out of their due consequences. Now, whether the lawyer knew their client was guilty or not would reflect on that lawyers morality, but i have not finished thinking about that specifically yet. Many people assume that lawyers are only out for personal gain, at least that is what many movies and television shows seem to portray. From my own encounters with lawyers, specifically the father of a former classmate, they can be kind, generous and loving to anyone. I think the issue of trust between lawyers and people who have not made studying the law their career is interesting. Many people, including myself, tend to get lost in translation when lawyers begin speaking about clauses and loopholes or newly passed laws because we dont understand the language; this dividing wall between the groups is easily one of the reasons that people dont easily trust lawyers. It is not easy to trust (typically) a stranger to represent you in court because in the realm of comprehension, the lawyers definitely have a starting advantage in that they have gone through many years of schooling and studying of the law.
