A good question from our group member, Mr. Utkarsh Kumar. He is asking: - Which is true? Religion or Science? A beautiful inquiry by him. Whatsoever I feel, of course through the inspiration & impact of the beloved master, I am responding to him. Sharing this in the group for the benefit of all our group members: - Please go through & you can respond with your comments: Utkarsh Kumar, Remember always: - Science is the subject that deals with the OUTER. Its the research into the external objects. A scientist uses CONTEMPLATION i.e. his whole mental focus or thought energy is channelized in one direction; channelized on the OBJECT on which he wants to explore. Its OBECTIVITY, discovering the nature & properties of matter, elements in the outside world. RELIGION is the exploration of the INNER WORLD. A spiritual seeker digs deep inside him to discover who he is in absolute terms. Religion is SUBJECTIVITY. Religion uses MEDITATION & not CONTEMPLATION. Here, in meditation, a meditator doesnt channelize his though energy or mental focus. He goes beyond mind & never stops with mind. Religion is the SCIENCE OF THE INNER where both the subject and object become ONE. Its the discovery of real SELF. In this aspect you need to know four different types of focusing of thought energies: - 1. Association of thoughts 2. Contemplation 3. Concentration 4. Meditation While the first one is what 90% of people get carried away. Second one is what a scientist or science does Third on is a bit higher where one focuses only one point / aspect excluding all other aspects Fourth on is the one that REALLY belongs to the true RELIGION. Here, one doesnt focus on anything, a meditator simply WATCHES his thoughts, his mind & goes beyond mind to discover his self. Coming to the point which is true, both science & religion are true in their own way. Science explores the outer world. Religion explores the inner world. Both should be COMPLEMENTARY to each other for a healthy and peaceful world. But the tragedy is that both oppose each other. If you ask me which is HIGHER, I should say true RELIGIOUSNESS & not religion is on a much higher plane than science. To prove the point, the greatest scientific genius known to the world so far - EINSTEIN himself admitted that there is something mysterious beyond the boundaries of science. He made this statement when he STUMBLED upon the DUAL NATURE OF ELECTRON. Einstein was unable to understand how an electron can behave both as a PARTICLE & a WAVE at a time. Then, he made this statement. As per your question, both religion & science are true in their own way. Both are needed for the advancement of man. As the outer world has been explored by the West, the inner world has been explored by the East. So, what is actually needed is a combination of the scientific West - The Occidental & the religious East - The Oriental to evolve a complete man, the global citizen beyond the barriers of caste or creed or religion or country. OSHO calls this evolution of new man as ZORBA THE BUDDHA where there will be a TOTAL SYNTHESIS of both MATERIALISM & SPIRITUALISM where Materialism is a product of science & Spiritualism is a product of religion.
