A good trade unionist knows when to dig in at the trenches and when to compromise and shake hands with capital and live to fight another day. The role of a trade unionist is not to keep labour out of work, but rather to use various negotiating tools at his disposal, including strike and go-slows as last resorts, to negotiate for better working terms and conditions on incremental basis. The bottom line is that labour is only useful when it works on capital, unless the intention is a revolution in which case labour would overthrow the ruling status of capital by establishing a socialist state. I want to believe that Wilson Sossion and his KNUT brigade are wise enough and will observe this rule. If the rules of the game are not observed, the results would be a labour force bored of staying idle and hungry. This may finally, at the instigation of capital, lead to scattering of membership and collapse of the union. Right now KNUT has two options: count the gains so far and call off the strike with promise to fight another day; or escalate the protest to another level and use the members to mobilize and organize the masses to overthrow the system and establish a new political order. I await to see the route that our good teachers will take. My great friend and comrade, Mtumishi Mogire please advise me on the strategy. Is it to reform and improve the working terms and conditions or is it a total revolution in the long run?
