A government cannot serve you (the society) more efficiently and honestly than what people themselves can do to each other through voluntary actions (say, philanthropy etc.). The route through government is very expensive and potential to breed high corruption. Thus, we should have minimum possible government, just to ensure welfare of genuinely weaker sections and to regulate the level playing field to prevent discrimination; in addition to the institutions for defense, law and order, and judiciary.
