A great day of paintball overall here at Naza World Cup Asia - TopicsExpress

A great day of paintball overall here at Naza World Cup Asia Paintball with games starting from 8am this morning and some fields only finishing at 9:30pm (but on schedule). Day 2 will start in less than 6 hours (Sat 8am Malaysian time (6 hours ahead of SA)) with Team Dynamix finishing off their last 2 prelim games in D1 at 10:20 against Datis and 12:20 against Poison Ivy. At 2:40pm the SA representative team will play their first ICC game against San Diego Dynasty. The SA players playing with Team Insidious will be on the field from 4:48pm playing their last 3 prelim games in their D3 division. Some general feedback about the tournament and overall: 4 fields at this years tournament with around 140+ teams from 40+ countries. This include a D4 mechanical field, D3, D2 and then the D1/ICC field. Playing in a big hall/exhibition center makes a difference with various advantages and disadvantages. Advantages include AIRCON, no wind, rain or any external factors that can mess up games. Disadvantages include extremely slippery floors outside the fields, noise levels and lights. Speaking to teams from various countries it is clear that South African players can be extremely grateful to the biggest degree for what we have in SA. The Sarpl (South African Regional Paintball League) seems to be the cheapest 3-man / 5-man national league in the world in comparison to other countries. Paint in SA is also probably the cheapest around. Tournament paint here at NWCAP starts at RM225/$75 (R750) for Ignite and then RM245/$81 (R810) for Evil/Marbalizer per box. Entry fee range from around R3500> per 5-man team and the player card to play the tournament is RM60/$20 (R200). Chatting to other teams attending the event it sounds like a lot of players pays around $90 (R900) for a box of tournament grade paintballs at their local fields/tournaments and over and above the entry fee sometimes also for air during the tournament per player. There are cheaper tournament paint as well, but in general seems to be over R600+ per box. In Australia players require a gun license to own a paintball marker / loader, which also needs to be locked up in a safe. Let us appreciate how lucky we are in South Africa with most of things paintball related and let us support our local importers, suppliers, shops, fields and leagues and help grow paintball even more. The only way we can have bigger events and start attracting more and more international visitors/players in SA is if we start standing together and support our own local events.
