A great example of stage one thinking... 1. 1/2 of 1% of all workers earn minimum wage. 2. Most minimum wage workers move on to higher paying jobs within a year. Raising the minimum wage helps almost nobody, and prices unskilled, entry-level workers out of jobs. A too-high minimum wage disproportionally impacts minority workers who havent even got a high school diploma, and have reading and math skills far below what they should have at their age. We should eliminate minimum wage laws and let the local jobs market determine the wage. We should be telling these workers that they need to gain skills and experience and move up into better paying jobs to make room for new entry level workers to enter the job market. We are doing society a disservice by making people comfortable earning minimum wage, and lying to them by telling them that they deserve a living wage doing unskilled work. Minimum age jobs are for high school kids to earn pocket money, not for heads of families.
