A group of about 75 Rissos dolphins were swimming so fast they made splashes visible a mile away. We learned they can swim at least 16 knots (about 18 mph), because thats how fast we were going alongside them once we caught up. Then they then turned from their course to surround us, sometimes leaping and even passing right under the boat. Rissos are very common in Monterey Bay but its rare to see them running fast on a smooth, sunny day like this. Enjoy.
