A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. Gage Mackay is the true definition of my hero. I have known her since I was a toddler, and every single day, she never failed to inspire everyone around her and bring a smile to our faces. She helped teach me the meaning of strength, perseverance, and how to keep smiling through lifes everyday challenges. Along with french and math throughout my 14 years at Montessori, I learned so many life lessons from this extraordinary woman, and I will carry them close to my heart everyday. She inspired me to write my very first song; a day in Grade 7, we got the news at school that her cancer battle had begun again. I remember going home that night, and writing down all the feelings I had, and the words she had always taught us: keep smiling.
