*A hologram appears of hooded man* Greetings my fellow Star Wars fanboys and fangirls. I just wanted to take a moment and talk to you all about canon and how it is viewed officially by Lucasfilm. There are a lot of people on the internet who like to say what they think is or isnt canon, but I want to share with you what Lucasfilm says about canon. They are the only people who have an official say on what is officially part of the Star Wars universe, and I dont want you guys and gals to get confused because some fan (who has nothing to do with canon or Lucasfilm for that matter) tells you wrong information. Before Lucasfilm was sold the OFFICIAL canon according to Lucasfilm was ranking according to canon levels. All of the levels were considered canon to Lucasfilm (so whether or not fans followed it is irrelevant). The canon ranking system when like this: G-Canon: This was the highest level and was made up of the most recent versions of the 6 Star Wars Episodes, any statement concerning production (published or unpublished), any creation originating from George Lucas that appears in the movie novelizations and reference books, & finally any deleted scenes from the film that does not contradict events in the movies. Any material from a lower level of canon that contradicts G-canon is deemed N-canon. T-Canon: This is the second highest level of canon and includes the movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series. If T-Canon material is mentioned or introduced into a higher canon level it becomes that level of canon. Any material from a lower level of canon that contradicts T-Canon is deemed N-canon. C-Canon: This is the third highest level of canon and includes Star Wars comics, cartoons, books, novels, and non-theatrical films, and games (only the story mode in games is C-canon and you must play according to the official game campaigns). If C-canon material is mentioned or introduced into a higher canon level it becomes that level of canon. Any material from a lower level of canon that contradicts C-Canon is deemed N-canon. S-Canon: This is the fourth highest level of canon and includes the Marvel Star Wars comics. This canon level can be ignored when writing and developing new material. If S-Canon material is mentioned or introduced into a higher canon level it becomes that level of canon. N-Canon: This is includes any material that contradicts a higher level of canon, it also includes What-if stories, and any story published under the Infinities brand. N-Canon also includes info that is cut from canon, deleted scenes, and cancelled Star Wars projects. This is the only level that is considered NON-canon by Lucasfilm. It is possible that a character is in a higher canon level and their back story is in a lower level of canon. Darth Bane and Darth Ruin are examples of this. Both of these characters are G-Canon characters and were created by George Lucas in his production notes for Episode I, but their stories have been written in the novels and books which are C-Canon. Now, that was the OLD canon system. When Lucasfilm was sold, Kathleen Kennedy was put in charge of Lucasfilm. She put together a team called the Lucasfilm Story Group. The members of this group are Carrie Beck, Diana Williams, Leland Chee, and Pablo Hidalgo. The Story Group is now in charge of what is canon. They are getting rid of the old ranking system and making everything on the same level. So going forward any new Star Wars material will be linked with each other, whether it is the movies, tv series, comics, games, or books. Going forward they will all be pieces of the same story. The Story Groups goal is to have the comics, games, movies, tv shows, and books to all be a gateway to the universe that is Star Wars. They are currently going through all Star Wars material to know what they will keep, in the new canon. This is something that EU fans have been wanting for years. As a EU lover I have always dreamed of the day that the comics, games, and books will be on the same level as the movies. We are finally getting that. Of course, there will be some changes to the universe as we know it now, but no more will people be able to say that the books or comics dont count. No more will people be able to say that if it didnt happen in the movies it didnt happen at all. I know there will be some changes that EU fans wont like, but in the end they are doing this for us because they finally realize how important the stories are that are not seen on film. As everyone here knows I only follow what is canon according to Lucasfilm, so once the Story Group has decided what will be kept I will update the photo albums accordingly. I hope this helps. I will also include a link in the comments below to a podcast where Leland Chee and Pablo Hidalgo talk about the Lucasfilm Story Group if anyone is interested. Dont fall for the lies that people spread on the internet. Most people dont know how the canon system worked and they just run their mouth. *Hologram fades away*
