A husband and wife had asked a contractor to examine the foundation of their house and determine if it was strong enough to withstand new construction. He reported that the pilings had so weakened that anyone who walked across the floor above them risked falling through. Without hesitation, they decided to rebuild the old pilings and thus strengthen the foundation of the home. The foundation of our society at large, and of our lives in particular, needs to be reexamined too. Is it strong enough for new construction --- the advances in science, technology, and medicine that are opening before us? We hear a lot about the pilings that we sometimes call values: Family values, ethical values, moral values, medical values, individual values, religious values. But when was the last time you examined them as they undergird the foundation of your own life, and family? Our cultures generally accepted value seems to be, Whatever makes you happy or works for you or makes you feel good, but it makes for a weak foundation. Its time to check your foundation. Where are weakened areas? Which pilings need to be strengthened , according to Gods Word? Where are you in this journey? Father God, help me to examine the areas in my life that need to be strengthened, and rebuilt. Help me to focus on making my life an example of what You want for me. Help me to be all that I can for you and not fall into the trap of going along with others just because that is what is expected. Help me to be able to stand up for truth and glorify and honor Your name at all costs! Amen! No one can lay any foundation other than the one that is already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:11
